Turn Friendsgiving to FriendsLIVING with These Recipes
The archive of EGO recipes is deep and vast. Not really, but even *I* forget about my own recipes sometimes! I felt like it might help you all if I resurfaced old ones or ones you may have missed while we’re all gaming out our Friendsgiving and Thanksgiving menus/offerings. Some of these are free, some of them are for the community of paid subscribers here on Substack. Some of them live on here, and some of them live on my website.
And if you don’t see anything that checks all your boxes on this list, you can peruse the entire EGO RECIPE INDEX. There you can find links to every recipe I’ve published, organized by category, where they are, and whether or not they are paywalled.
Salty Cinnamon Crunch Pumpkin Focaccia
Canned puréed pumpkin lends a bright orange color color and plush tenderness to this bread, and a bit of flavor, and keeps it from drying out for at least 2 or 3 days. (It is revived beautifully with a five-minute toast in the oven.)
Feel free to leave the topping off and simply drizzle with olive oil and flakey sea salt.
Mini Cornbreads
Inspired by kind I would sneak home while working at a barbecue restaurant, these were baked in little loaf tins and would rise up so high that the batter would sometimes come oozing out their tops like a volcano, giving them these little nubs — the best part.
Here’s the thing: I like sweet cornbread. This cornbread contains an amount of sugar that some purists might balk at, but sugar imparts more than sweetness, it gives the tenderness, moistness, and the golden brown color that I was attempting to recreate.
Pumpkin Caramel Ice Cream Cake
You can use store-bought ice cream (a one-gallon tub is enough) and caramel sauce for this recipe to make it super easy.
Delicata Ricotta Pastries
I'm obsessed with how these sort of look like windowsills or quilt squares.
One Giant Wildberry Pop-Tart
It's pie season but that doesn't mean you have to spend 4 hours on an apple pie with lattice top. With this, you can literally roll out two sheets of puff pastry (or make the rough puff I give in the recipe) and make, in essence, a giant slab pie.
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies
This is a friend of a friend's family recipe that she lovingly calls "low-key hideous but delicious". They are intentionally cake-y and plush, dead-easy to make, and reliably go viral on Instagram every time I post them.
Turmeric Carrot Cake Bread
Carrots and turmeric ….. both orange! Carrot cake is of course lovely but can be cloying and a bit heavy? Carrots are herbaceous and grassy and earthy (they come out of the earth!) and turmeric shares that earthy flavor (it is also made from a root!) so one could argue they go together.
Five Spice Pumpkin Tart
Okay I’m going to try to power through this because I want to get you these two recipes and I know that Friendsgiving season has already started but maybe if you have one this weekend you can break one of these out. If not, Thanksgiving is also a thing!
Butterscotch-Chocolate Corn Flake Treats
an absolute EGO banger that comes together in 30 minutes and always impresses.
Cornbread Snacking Cake with Honey-Cream Cheese Frosting
I get so many DMs from home bakers sending me pictures of this cake! It's just teetering on the edge of bread but with the sweetness in the batter and the cream cheese frosting, it's firmly cake. When you need a dessert *or* a side, this does both!
Pumpkin Whoopie Pies

Pumpkin with cream cheese is a classic combination. With these pumpkin whoopie pies, where soft, cake-like pumpkin cookies sandwich tangy cream cheese filling, I’m also giving you the option to experiment with another excellent cheese: mascarpone.
Oatmeal Cream Pies

These oatmeal sandwich cookies are like Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies… if Debbie were 25 years older, recently purchased her first home (in this market??) and is thinking about getting her Ph. D. They are deeper, more mature, and have traded in sweetness for TASTE.
4-Cheese Mac & Cheese

What I wanted: a creamy cheese sauce, baked under a blanked of crusty cheesy breadcrumbs. That was the prompt. And that’s what we got — but read the whole intro to learn about the common pitfalls and pro-tips so you can avoid dry, soupy, grainy and gritty, curdled or BLAND mac and cheese.
And by the way, it’s a 4-cheese mac and cheese thanks to the parmesan-panko breadcrumbs, plus cheddar, fontina and gruyere in the ultra-luxurious sauce.
Everything Bagel Pepper Jelly Puffs

Judges, today I have prepared for you puff pastry cases with an everything bagel seasoning rim, filled with a scallion cream cheese/goat cheese filling and topped with pepper jelly. I really wasn’t prepared to realize, upon first tasting, that these are *so* evocative of crab rangoon. The pepper jelly hits the same notes as a sweet chili sauce, and then it mixes with the cream cheese and the crispiness of the shell.
